IMPLEMENTATION OF SYLLABUS FOR TANZANIA HISTORY SUBJECT AS ADIVOCATED BY PRESIDENT MAGUFULI TO BE COMPULSORY FOR ALL LEARNERS

 Tuesday February 23 2021

Dar es Salaam. The history of Tanzania will begin teaching in primary schools from March, 2021 after the Tanzania Institute of Education (TET) completes the drafting and summaries.

The move is an implementation of an order issued by President John Magufuli when he swore in ministers on December 9, 2020 at the State House in Chamwino, Dodoma region.

On the occasion, Magufuli called on the Minister of Education in the country, Professor Joyce Ndalichako to introduce a study of Tanzanian history and make it compulsory.

Speaking in Dar es Salaam today, Tuesday, February 23, 2021, the chairperson of the TET board, Professor Bernadeta Killian, said that after completing the preparation of the draft summaries, the ongoing work was to complete the book writing work which is expected to end in March.

"Based on the strategy we have developed, pre-school to seventh grade classes will start in the third month and secondary will start in May. Books continue to be prepared with great urgency and attention.

“In the whole process of writing summaries and books TET follows various steps, one is to involve education stakeholders, so we have organized a stakeholder meeting. Some of them are institutions of higher learning, teacher training colleges, non-governmental organizations, ministries, various organizations and the final implementers of the curriculum who are teachers, ”he said.

Professor Killian said other stakeholders are religious institutions and traditional leaders including chiefs and mangi from various regions in mainland Tanzania and historians from Zanzibar and the history association in Tanzania.
