TEACHER'S EMPLOYMENT

5,000 TEACHER'S EMPLOYMENT TANZANIA

hopes to hire 5,000 new teachers to strengthen the education sector and reduce the country's employment crisis.

 President John Magufuli

Speaking to teachers and students of Bukoba Secondary School in Kagera region yesterday after the signing between Tanzania and LZ Nickel Mining Company, President Magufuli said the government is committed to promoting the education sector in the country.

He said that since taking office, they have hired more than 30,000 teachers and recently advertised 8,000 vacancies and are now announcing 5,000 teacher vacancies and among them, they will go to Bukoba.

He said they want the issue of education to be considered in the country, stressing that any nation that values education, is the one that values true development and that is why they decided to put in place a free education strategy.

"Over the past five years, Shs. 1.1 trillion has been spent on education and we will continue to do so and in higher education we have spent more than Shs. 450 billion on each budget in each year," he said.

President Magufuli also warned against misconduct among students, suggesting that he would like to continue corporal punishment in schools.

"I know you will not like it, but that is the only way to help the child, but I know my children are gentle and follow all the conditions, those lashes will not affect them," he said.

Earlier, President Magufuli called on the Ministry of Mines to put in place a mechanism that would enable the Nickel mining project in the Kabanga area in Ngara district, to begin soon after the Tanzanian government signed a preliminary agreement with LZ-Nickel Company.

The President said the Kabanga Nickel project started in 1976 and now is the right time to start mining, so that the people of Ngara can benefit.

"Unfortunately, during the whole period there was no investment in Kabanga Nickel mining for the benefit of the people of Ngara, the entire region and the nation as a whole," he said.

He said in order to implement the project correctly, LZ-Nickel Company in collaboration with the Government of Tanzania, have formed a subsidiary called Tembo Nickel.

"I know in the good intentions of the government there will be protesters because there are those who wanted it and those protesters will cooperate with local Tanzanians, but the business of jealousy is the dominant force in the world.

"We have been deceived for a long time that they are carrying sand but we are being robbed, and if it is stolen we have been stolen now, we cannot allow it to continue to be stolen, and the people of Ngara are sitting on property, but they are poor," he said.

President Magufuli also instructed the Ministry of Works to immediately announce a tender to repair the Nyakahura to Rusumo road in Ngara district which connects Tanzania and Rwanda.

He said the mining industry continues to grow, noting that when he came to power, Tanzania was earning Shs. 168 billion, but has now increased to Shs. 528 billion a year.

Investors in the project are from the United States, Australia and the United Kingdom.
